A significant event was organized by OpenAI in which they introduced a new version called GPT-4O, where the “O” stands for Omni. GPT-4O is incredibly fast, enabling real-time conversations with almost no delay. This means you can talk to AI bots as if they were real people.
With older versions like GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, the process was slower because your voice had to be converted to text, processed, and then converted back to audio. This took 2 to 6 seconds. But GPT-4O works differently. It can take voice, text, and even images directly, understanding the context and tone of what you say right away.
And the best part? GPT-4O is free for everyone. You no longer need to pay $20 per month for advanced features. You get custom GPTs, advanced data analytics, browsing, and memory options all for free.
Here are some of the cool things GPT-4O can do:
- Real-Time Conversations: GPT-4O can talk to you almost instantly, understanding not just your words but the tone and context. So, if you take an example of GPT 3.5 and GPT4, if you click on voice input the way it works is that you speak something that voice and audio is converted into text and then the text is fed into GP 3.5 or4 and then you get an answer from these models and then it is converted into audio and then you get to hear it. Now this involves three major processes and that is why it takes time anywhere from 2 to 6 seconds. You would have to wait to get the response which makes it feel unreal and does not allow for real-time communication and that is what the GPT 4O model fixes.
- Language Translation: It can translate languages in real-time, which is great for travelers. Just show it an object with your camera, and it will tell you what it’s called in different languages. You can ask it what you call this in French, or what you call this in Mandarin. It would give you the word and then you can speak that word to the other person if you’re in a new country.
- Screen Sharing Help: You can share your screen on the desktop app and ask GPT-4O for help with anything, from understanding a piece of code to getting feedback on your work.
